New Puppy FAQ

How do I get my puppy?

New Puppy FAQ

Prior to pick up/Delivery day we will schedule a time and place with you.

Pick up at our home is always available

~Delivery~ We understand not everyone can come to us to pick up their new puppy. While that is always an option we would also like to offer delivery at a fee of $1.00 per mile by car from our house to yours or any other location.  Contact us if other arrangements are necessary.

What if I can no longer care for my puppy?

As stated in our contract if you are needing to rehome your puppy at any time for any reason you will be required to return the puppy to us. We can then assess it’s needs and find it a home best suited for it.

When should I spay or neuter my puppy?

We get asked all the time when should I spay or neuter my puppy? There are a lot of different opinions on when is the best time. It has been shown that puppies that are sterilized to early are at risk for serious and costly health issues such as orthopedic issues and cancers. It is best to wait until your pet is fully matured and grown to their full potential. After “puberty” is best. Sometime after the first year and before the second is great!

Which is better a girl or boy puppy?

Some people have a personal preference when choosing between a male or female puppy. You may already have another dog in the home that has to be thought of when choosing as well. Just as in humans every puppy is unique in its own ways. Temperament testing is always a good idea when looking for a certain type of personality. However there are some differences to consider.

Before spay or neuter- Male dogs tend to mark their territory, can be aggressive to other male dogs and show dominance. Female dogs will have a heat cycle twice a year and can also mark their territory during this time. Each will seek each other out during the right time if given the chance.

After spay or neuter- Once a dog has been fixed these behaviors will subside. They no longer have the reproductive organs that stimulate these behaviors. This doesn’t mean that they won’t establish dominance or pecking order around other dogs in the same home. Keep in mind the leader of the pack should always be you!

In general males can be a bit larger than females from the same litter. It has been said that females are more demanding when it comes to attention and that males tend to stay puppy-like for longer. However with my experience outside of the obvious male and female traits before spay and neuter, temperament testing is by far a bigger indication of the type of personality your puppy will have long term along with exposures and a great curriculum that helps them to reach their full potential.

So if you are undecided and don’t necessarily have a personal preference talking with the breeder about the type of temperament that best fits your home will ensure the best puppy for you!
